Celebrate Learning!
INDEPENDENT STUDY FAIR
March 21, 2002

Every year, we choose a subject we REALLY like, and study it for two whole months.  Every week, we do research, make a project, and give a presentation based on one of the six levels of Blooms Taxonomy:   KNOWLEDGE, COMPREHENSION, APPLICATION, ANALYSIS, SYNTHESIS, and EVALUATION.  We are graded on research, neatness, creativity, oral presentation and effort. After our six projects are done, we take them all into the cafeteria and design creative displays to show them off.  Then, our families and all the other kids in the school come to see how hard we worked. We can win many awards for our projects, including Creative Display Awards, Personal Best Awards, High Average Awards, and the coveted BLOOMIE AWARD.  You get a "Bloomie" when you get 100% on one or more of your projects.

The Independent Study Fair doesn't just teach us about our topics, it teaches us to use many different types of research materials, collect and analyze data, speak in front of an audience, and evaluate our own and our peers' work.  That's a lot of learning crammed into two months!

We learned a lot about thinking, like:

STRETCH YOUR COMFORT ZONE!

IF YOU GET INTO A JAM, GET YOURSELF OUT!

And the most important rule of all...

THINK OUTSIDETHE BOX!
