Volunteer Guidelines

Children need to have good role models and warm loving adults around to work with them. If you have a little extra time and the desire, your assistance will be greatly appreciated. To best meet the needs of the children, the following guidelines are recommended:

  1. Parents may work in theclassroom at the teacher's request. All reprimands and discipline of students should be referred to the teacher. If there is any problem with any of the students, it should be brought to the teacher's attention so s(he) can handle any situation. If there is a problem with the ownership of an item, the item should be given to the teacher.

  2. When the teacher is giving instructions, all children are to be seats listening. Asking a parent to go to the restroom, get drinks, etc. may not excuse them. If it is urgent, the children are to interrupt the teacher. It is imperative that parents remain quiet when the teacher is speaking with the class in order to model listening skills and prevent students from being distracted.

  3. Parents wishing to work on any machine in the workroom must attend one of the training sessions that will be provided by ADO. Supplies in the workroom are for school use only.

  4. If a parent is collecting money fora teacher (i.e., class parties, etc.) the parent must caount the money with the teacher and the teacher should initial the money envelope. There is a safe in the school office in which to keep collected money. The office staff can assist you with this.

  5. A parent may be asked not to work in the classroom or may be asked not to accompany the class in field trips, etc., (at any time) at the teacher's discretion.

Any parent who wants to collect money without teacher approval (i.e. teacher's gift) is accountable for money collected. At least two parents should count and validate amounts of money collected and accurate records reflecting what money was collected should be kept. No parent may benefit financially from money collected.

ADO appreciates very much any help from parents. Please plan on attending the monthly PTA meetings where you will meet other parents unterested in making the elementary school experience a positive one. There are so many ways you can help your child's teacher, whether you come in during the school day or help with projects that can be completed at home. WE THANK YOU FOR PLACING VOLUNTEERISM HIGH IN YOUR PRIORITY LIST!
